The Glen Bourne Park project highlighted the client’s trust in Domus, providing us freedom to manage the build with minimal client involvement. This autonomy enabled Domus to address challenges efficiently and ensure a high-quality result that delighted the client.
The Glen Bourne Park project was a custom home build for a client with whom Domus had a close, personal connection. This project was particularly meaningful to the client, who wanted to create a special home for his newborn son—something beyond what he had growing up. Without a formal design plan or extensive client input, Domus was entrusted with an unusual amount of creative control. Over the nine-month project, Domus worked autonomously, shaping the vision while ensuring that it fulfilled the client’s desires.
The existing home structure presented numerous challenges, including structural, mechanical, and electrical issues that required Domus to deconstruct significant portions of the home before rebuilding. As the project progressed, the complexity grew, with multiple contractors and tradespeople involved daily. At peak times, the site hosted up to 36 workers at once. Domus coordinated these teams by implementing a time-slot schedule, ensuring that each worker had dedicated time to address their unique tasks and challenges.
Renovations included the addition of a guest room and an extended kitchen space. This new informal gathering area aligned with the family’s European cultural preferences, providing a comfortable and welcoming space close to the kitchen. The project featured a specialized air conditioning and furnace system to effectively manage the expanded area. Additionally, a lift system was installed for high chandeliers and other ceiling fixtures, making it easy to maintain and replace bulbs in the 20-foot ceilings without extensive effort.
